September Revisited

Better late than never. I've been a little distracted lately by the impending collapse of the entire global economic system. Now that world governments have stepped in to nationalize the financial system and somehow back the 50+ TRILLION dollars of Credit Default Swaps and the absolutely insane amounts of leverage in the system, all is well again. What was I thinking? I'll try to stay more focused on happy thoughts in the future.

Compared to historical averages, September in Hood River was warmer, less windy, and drier.

The average temperature was 2.2 degrees warmer than long term averages, but 0.2 degrees cooler than more recent averages (2000-2007). Wind speeds were considerably lower than average, with SSW winds predominating.

There were no official temperature or rainfall records set in September.

  1. One last comment on your one last poll on the seemingly endless current political campaign: I backed Obama from the beginning but was a little uncomfortable with his supposed lack of experience. After hearing Colin Powell's careful and unemotional rationale for endorsing Obama, any misgivings I had are gone. He has my wholehearted and enthusiastic support. Now my only concern is that some idiot somewhere is carving Obama's name on a bullet.

  2. My main concern is that President Obama will immediately be blamed for the economic meltdown which will deepen during the first part of his term, no matter what he does. Instant failed presidency. The same thing would happen to McCain or anybody else, for that matter.

However, for what it's worth, I feel certain that Obama will surround himself with much smarter and realistic advisors than George Bush did.

If Obama does win, we can only hope that Bush and the neocons don't decide to pull an executive order hat trick and declare the election void due to economically-required martial law.

On the other hand, I suspect that the current administration can't hardly wait to get out of Dodge before Dodge collapses.
